First Pattern: baby booties

I made these little beauties for a friend’s baby shower last week and I just love them! The best thing was they only took three evenings in front of the TV to finish – win! I’d seriously consider making some for myself if the weather was still colder…

There was a bit of a debate going on over whether these are suitable for a baby boy. I made them for a new born boy but some people (I’m looking at you mum) said they wouldn’t put a baby boy in something with flowers on – is that really old fashioned or do you agree?

Glossy Box: Harrods Edition

I did a little yelp of excitement when my first Glossy Box landed on my doorstep. Especially as it was of the eagerly anticipated Harrods Limited Edition variety – eek! I was a little disappointed with the packaging as I was expecting the iconic green and gold.

All that ribbon and tissue paper is like a big juicy steak to a hungry person – let me at it!

Tah dah! Ze contents: Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper Body Butter, Leighton Denny High Performance Nail Colour in Honey Trap, ReVive Intensite Creme Lustre, Versace Vanitas perfume and Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream.

All of the products are a decent size and you certainly get your £10 worth – they just don’t scream Harrods to me. Most of these products you can find in Boots.

The Bliss body butter has the most divine smell. I’m a bit lax when it comes to body skin care but this stuff is like being dunked into a glass of Tropicana – gorgeous! The perfume and the other creams are nice but I don’t think I’d buy them at their full price. I’m not in love with the nail varnish. The colour is nice but it takes quite a few coats to be opaque.

All in all I’m happy with my first box but I’ll be keeping a close eye on future boxes to see if they’re worth the money.

Into the darkness

The awkward introduction: I’m Gemma – a freelance features writer from Kent.

My job is to write about other people lives. I write about the ‘big’ things that happen to them – the dramas. But the things I like to read are the ‘little’ things that make a person who they are.

I’m not an expert on anything but if you’re interested come in and take a look around. You never know, you might want to stay a while.
